About Ren
I make records for people who want to investigate them: one world, with one thread running through every song and every video, with enough enchantment to make the hard parts of life become bearable. I paint vivid pictures through allegorical—yet relatable—lyrics, attracting those who yearn for a daily dose of whimsy in the mundanity of the modern world. I pull from aspects of nature and space and natural disasters and death and so many large scale things from the external world to portray the deep and intense feelings I experience in my internal world. I accompany these feelings with rich guitar layers, eerie vocal stacks, and lush string arrangements, all combining to create an eerie, foresty, fantasy world to give myself, and others, a magical space to escape to where we’ll feel safe to process and explore our feelings.
Music has always been there for me, and if you’re here reading this, music has probably been there for you too. It is the one thing in this world, other than myself, that I know I can always rely on. At 8 years old I was diagnosed with OCD, I was bullied and felt like an outsider a lot growing up. Pretending I was someone I wasn’t became second nature, to the point where even I was fooled to believe I was being myself. All the while, I was still battling against the worst bully of all, the bully I could never escape: the bully in my brain. So, I started writing songs to process these big emotions I've always felt. I began sharing these songs, and they've reached other people, helping them with their struggles too. Through creating music, I’ve learned to break down the mask I was taught to wear, and now I aim to wear my heart on my sleeve instead. And not just in my songs, but in my daily life. I will not hide my struggles with mental illness or my queerness to be deemed more “acceptable” by society, and I hope in sharing my story, and the music I create from it, that I can show others that they’re not alone, and that they are worthy of love and fulfilling their dreams.
I write for the “overdramatic,” the overly emotional, the deep thinkers. For the sapphics who want to listen to music written about and by other women and queer people, looking for comfort while they're going through their fated Fall breakup. I write music from an authentic place to show that feeling deeply isn’t a weakness, it is a strength, it is human. It is how we learn to love and embrace who we are, and learn how to not go through everything alone. I hope my music helps you feel less alone; like a warm blanket, a comforting cup of tea, the sound of rain outside the window. I hope you feel the release of catharsis, the freedom to scream along and cry and let your mascara run down your face, creating space for the beginnings of hope in the face of uncertainty to spill through, leading you to find that pain and struggles are the path to growth, and an abundance of beauty and joy is waiting for you on the other side of it.
As an up and coming artist, I’ve released 9 singles since 2022, built a 6-piece band onstage made up of some of my closest friends, and graduated from Berklee College of music with a degree in songwriting. I have played shows at various venues in Boston such as the Red Room at Cafe 939, Sofar Sounds, The Middle East, and am set to perform at Club Passim’s renowned Campfire Festival in September. The next step, which I am of the utmost thrilled about, is my 7 song concept EP titled Wildfire, which is set to release this Fall, alongside three music videos. It details the journey of my first heartbreak, the path to acceptance, and growing into the version of myself I was always meant to become. Along with it, I filmed 3 music videos, all of which are interconnected (of course), directed by a team of five music video directors. While you wait for the full story to be dropped this November, you can listen to my current catalogue here.
